LaceWatcher PRO

Central unattended Fragmentation Monitoring and Control management tool

Managing the data quality of your disks helps keeping a constant performance level while slowing the aging process of your computers. You'll find yourself spending less money on business continuity issues like computers upgrade.

Try LaceWatcher-pro on old computers first, and you will be surprised to see that some of them need not be replaced now. This is "An instant ROI".

LaceWatcher-pro is an extremely SAFE agentless product which does not hook into the system!

This is an excellent tool if you need to guarantee a good performance of servers and workstations, and provides the means to automate this requirement.

Screens and main options walk-through:

1. Main LaceWatcher PRO screen

Every line in the above picture describes the fragmentation level of a single disk in a workstation or server. Having this unique view you now understand where the bottlenecks of your system are. The columns titles are used to sort the lines accordingly.

Having  LaceWatcher-PRO installed, you will be able to implement preventive maintenance procedures on computers. It means a lot of money.

The "Lacelevel" factor introduced here scientifically measures the data quality of the disk and correspond to the "User Experience" and performance.  Disks with a high fragmentation level have poor performance - but you can measure it even before the user starts suffering from the symptoms. Click to learn more about the "Lacelevel" Factor

The "LABEL" column was added to assist the user to group the users by functional use.

The add and remove keywords are used to choose Servers or Stations to be managed. You may use Name, IP address or drag&drop from the network folder. (If you do not have administrator credentials, you may still check it using the "My Computer" option shown below)

2. Network at a glance.

Pressing the ANALYZE Button after LaceWatcher PRO completed checking all the volumes will plot the distribution of the fragmentation results of your network (The red columns) compared with those of the distribution of all the other users in the world (The blue columns). The following sample describes a real situation of a customer having more than 100 disks controlled by LaceWatcher PRO. In this example you can see, that the average fragmentation is not higher than the global average, but it is more extreme, and shows many computers with a high fragmentation level. This customer will have to examine the machines with the high fragmentation level in which a maintenance has to be done.

The data used to plot the blue columns information  is  being collected from users of the technology. Those results are continuously being collected and used to refresh the data. Pressing the ANALYZE button in LaceWatcher PRO creates an internet query from  www.disklace.com for the latest data.

Paying customers has an option to receive the latest distribution and to obtain the information without using an external site call.

3. The ALERT SETUP screen.

After installing LaceWatcher-PRO your maintenance team  will start receiving alerts, telling what has to be done next. The alerts can be configured in several ways:

1. Event log alerts is added to the system log (Right-click on My computer -> Manage -> Alerts)

2. External application has to be written to handle alerts. The format is very simple and already  demonstrated with leading Asset Management software.

Software vendors that already tested receiving alerts from LaceWatcher PRO are: CA (Unicenter), IBM (Tivoli), HP (OM). Please note in the following example a simple way to practice this option with the "msg *" command.

3. Send Alerts to any e-mail, and not just the operator. Please note that the alerts will be sent from disklace.com, so a stable internet connection is required.

4. Latest news: SMTP interface for sending alerts email messages directly within your organization is available.

4. Managing the alert filters

In order to reduce the number of alerts, it is possible to fine-tune the parameters.

Select a disk and double-click or click on the settings keyword. Several disks may be selected (Ctrl + Click) in order to apply the same change.

Choose the duration of the fragmentation check and the level requested to send an alert when passed.

In order to run the standard defragmentation program on a disk if the lacelevel is higher than the defined filter, you have to mark the option. A  Second Level Alert will be generated if the results of defragmentation did not improve the situation. In this case further actions has to be taken.

Warning: If you chose to use this option, you have to remember that fragmentation is a very long process, so you are strongly advised to change the "At:" parameter time in which the scan and defrag will happen, in order not to disturb your user.

5. History

No one saw before the "Heart-beats" of data quality along the life cycle of disks.

Clicking on the HISTORY button will open a ".CSV" file for the selected disk. You will be able to plot the graph of your fragmentation level moving along the time axis. This is a unique view that no one was able to produce before.

More than one disk can be selected to construct an installation fragmentation level behavior pattern.

In the example you can see that DEFRAG was activated on 24/10 where the fragmentation level was 8.5 over the chosen threshold, and on 3/12 at level 9.1

In the future this graph will be embedded into LaceWatcher. Currently, it can be easily plotted via Excel (XY scatter graph).
